At Kinzua Canine, our group classes are more than just obedience—they’re about building lasting communication, trust, and teamwork between you and your dog. Whether you’re just starting out or ready to polish up advanced skills, our structured, relationship-focused classes give dogs and their people the tools they need to thrive together.
Group Class
AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy® Class
The AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy® Program (Socialization, Training, Activity, and a Responsible Owner) is the American Kennel Club’s first step in its Canine Good Citizen™ (CGC) training series. Designed for puppies up to 1 year old, this program goes beyond basic obedience to promote early development in real-world manners, safe socialization, and responsible dog ownership.
Throughout this 6-week class, puppies and owners will work on:
- Socialization with people and other dogs in a controlled setting
- Learning to accept handling (touching paws, ears, etc.)
- Loose-leash walking and response to name
- Building tolerance for grooming and vet visits
- Responsible owner behaviors (like bringing poop bags, maintaining wellness checks)
- Confidence-building in new environments
The class culminates in the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy® test, which includes 20 items evaluating both puppy behavior and owner responsibility. Upon passing, you’ll receive an official AKC certificate, medal, and be listed in the national S.T.A.R. Puppy registry.

KC Basics 101
Foundations for Everyday Life with Your Dog
KC Basics 101 is a 6-week class designed for adolescent dogs, new dog owners, or anyone looking to build (or rebuild) a strong foundation with their pup. This course focuses on communication, engagement, and essential life skills that help you and your dog enjoy more together—in and out of the home.
Perfect for dogs over 5 months old, this class emphasizes practical tools that strengthen the dog-handler bond through positive, play-based training.
You and your dog will learn:
✅How to use clear communication markers
✅Building focus and engagement around distractions
✅Core commands for everyday life (sit, down, come, leave it, etc.)
✅Intro to polite leash walking
✅Exposure to new environments, sounds, and surfaces
✅Skills to increase confidence and responsiveness
Whether you’re just starting out or refreshing your skills, KC Basics 101 helps lay the groundwork for future success and a more enjoyable life with your dog.

Introducing Puppy Playground Fridays — an open-enrollment socialization session just for puppies 10 to 15 weeks old! 💛🐶
Why wait to start training? Early socialization is key to helping puppies grow into confident, well-rounded dogs. Puppy Playground is the perfect place for:
✔️ Safe, positive play with other puppies
✔️ Exposure to new people, sights & sounds
✔️ Building confidence in a fun environment
✨ Open enrollment means you can start any Friday—we don’t want your pup to miss this critical developmental window! Come once, or come each week until your puppy ages out to group class!
