Brittany’s life has always been deeply intertwined with dogs. From an early age, she had a passion for animal. This led her to volunteer at a local animal shelter in high school. It was there she learned about careers in the animal field. Brittany attended The Vet Tech Institute in Pittsburgh, PA and earned her associate’s degree in veterinary technology.
After practicing as a Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) for six years, she transitioned careers. During this time, she ran a small farm, worked with large and small animals, and began learning more about training. She advocated for and implemented the Rescued Under Federal Fences (RUFF) Program in 2019. A prisoner education program, in partnership with a local animal rescue, focusing on behavior modification to enhance the adoptability of select dogs.
It was here the need was found. So many dogs coming into rescue, many times at no fault of their own. Lost, abandoned, or misunderstood, struggling to find their home. How do we change this narrative. Our hope is through education and training!
So Kinzua Canine was founded. While training up Leena, Brittany's detection dog, she found great joy building the bond, problem solving, pushing both her and Leena's capabilities. When having a working dog, a large portion of success is based on the relationship and training. This transfers to pet dogs as well.
Our dogs need a purpose, boundaries, and clear communication. With this we can create unbreakable bonds and fulfilling lives for our companions. Many behavioral issues stem from unmet needs. Behavioral issues are the number one reason dogs are surrendered to rescue. The goal of Kinzua Canine is to bridge the gap in communication between owners and their pets to form unbreakable bonds.
Brittany offers a variety of training and educational programs designed to make dog training accessible to everyone. From her rescued Pitty, to high energy, high drive Malinois each learn in different ways, have different things they enjoy doing, and different needs.
From guardian dogs to little dogs with big personalities she has experience in working with canines of all sizes. As well as the lovable couch potato to the high energy fur missals, Brittany enjoys helping owners find proper outlets and ways to keep your dog's mind active and learning.
In her "spare" time Brittany currently enjoys training for PSA with her Malinois, Kaz. Detection with Leena, along with her partner Dan, and his detection dog Viggo. They also enjoy going on hikes and hanging out on the homestead with her teenage daughter Haylee and the rest of the pack, Mack, Miley, Lola, and Flash.
